This is senior-level professional and supervisory law enforcement work with Missouri Division of State Parks which includes the power of arrest.
Enforces Missouri state laws and state park rules and regulations by use of citations, warnings, and custodial arrests.
Exercises supervision over Park Rangers ; reviews, approves, and evaluates work assignments and schedules of Park Ranger staff; and assumes duties and responsibilities of the Law Enforcement Manager in his/her absence. Patrols state parks and/or historic sites by emergency equipped vehicle, bicycle, on foot and/or by use of a specialized vehicle such as a motorcycle, boat, or ATV).
Responds to incidents in assigned state parks and/or historic sites including call outs when off-duty; participates in frequent communications with superiors and local and state law enforcement agencies in regards to emergency and non-emergency events.
Investigates or supervises the investigation of crimes and accidents within state park boundaries; seizes, collects, and processes evidence maintaining proper chain of custody for use in criminal prosecution. Prepares criminal cases for prosecution; makes court appearances and provides testimony; reports final case dispositions; and assists assigned personnel in preparation for court appearances.
Plans and coordinates law enforcement services at special events and activities.
Develops and implements safety and security plans for the protection of state park and historic site visitors, employees, displays, and exhibits; coordinates mutual aid agreements with local law enforcement agencies.
Coordinates and conducts search and rescue/recovery operations; administers first aid treatment to injured state park and historic site visitors and/or employees.
Conducts annual physical inventory of division property; collects data concerning equipment, repair and maintenance, and staff training needs.
Assists state park and/or historic site visitors; promotes public relations by delivering educational programs concerning the state park system, law enforcement, and security to schools, civic groups and state park and historic site visitors.
Reviews law enforcement reports.
Ensures the Ranger Program is well represented at all public and informational meetings.
Assists with prescribed burns inside park boundaries.
Travels frequently in the performance of duties and to attend/conduct training and events.
Exercises independence in developing and supervising work assignments; receives general administrative direction.
Performs other related work as assigned.
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Two or more years of experience as a Park Ranger with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
OR
One or more years of experience as a Park Ranger Corporal with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and,
One or more years of experience as a patrol officer with the power of arrest in a federal, state, county, or city law enforcement agency.
(Additional qualifying experience and/or honorable service in the United States armed forces (at the E-5 level or above) with primary responsibility in a comparable capacity may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the stated education and experience.)
Ability to initially and annually demonstrate the level of physical fitness deemed necessary to perform the essential functions of the job through successful completion of a fit-for-duty assessment administered by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Ability to pass a medical examination, a visual examination with eyesight corrected to 20/40, and a psychological evaluation as prescribed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources after a conditional offer of appointment is made.
Ability to obtain, at the time of employment, and maintain licensure as a peace officer in accordance with the requirements established by the State of Missouri.
Ability to obtain and maintain certification as a police bicyclist in accordance with the criteria prescribed by the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA).
Possession of a valid Missouri vehicle operator's license appropriate for vehicle assignment.

Comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles of safety practices and methods.
Intermediate knowledge of records and files management.
Ability to administer first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
Ability to supervise and conduct criminal investigations.
Ability to communicate effectively and interact with individuals of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, law enforcement agencies and their employees, and the general public.
Ability to perceive color differences and hear direct and radio communications.
Ability to develop and maintain clear and concise records, files, and reports. Ability to satisfactorily complete law enforcement and supervisory training courses designated by the Missouri Division of State Parks.
Ability to display proficiency in self-defense measures, physical arrest tactics, and firearm usage.
Ability to travel in the performance of duties and to attend/conduct trainings and events.
