This is entry-level professional geologic work.
Participates in field examinations of mineral deposits and mining facilities; assists in the analysis of geologic data relating to the development, conservation, or utilization of mineral deposits, oil and natural gas, and water resources.
Reviews and critiques site remediation work, including groundwater monitoring and contaminant migration at solid and hazardous waste disposal sites; drafts environmental impact statements.
Assists with the preparation of geologic and related maps such as structure, surficial material, or groundwater resource maps.
Participates in the preparation of technical reports concerning geologic investigations.
Conducts routine field investigations pertaining to drilling of water wells.
Conducts routine environmental geology site investigations, prepares reports, and assists in analysis of geologic hazards.
Assists with the preparation of sample logs from microscopic and megascopic examinations of cuttings and core of water and mineral exploration wells.
Collects and maintains geologic and related data.
Assists with the planning and presentation of public exhibits communicating risks to the public, publicizing local accomplishments, and promoting a variety of geologic programs and projects.
Discusses basic geologic issues with representatives of public and private organizations.
Receives close administrative direction from a designated supervisor; as employee gains experience, more complex assignments are given; work is reviewed in progress for adherence to policies and procedures.
Performs other related work as assigned.
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Geology, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field.

Do you possess the key skills which are considered essential for successful employment in this classification?
Introductory knowledge of current principles and practices of geology, including physical and historical geology, mineralogy, stratigraphy, and sedimentation.
Introductory knowledge of field and laboratory equipment used in geologic site investigations and regional studies.
Introductory knowledge of geologic mapping procedures, chemistry, and computer applications and software used in geologic investigations and analysis.
Ability to identify and evaluate mineral specimens, some of which require chemical or petrographic examinations.
Ability to travel in the performance of assigned duties.
Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare clear and concise reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, staff, public officials, private sector management, and the general public.
