Definition

This is skilled work in the fabrication, alteration, and repair of sheet metal articles, equipment, and structures.

Job Duties

Fabricates, alters, repairs, and installs a variety of sheet metal and related items such as stove pipes, grates, grills, ducts, gutters, sinks, shelves, cabinets, security screens, and other similar items.

Operates and maintains bench and hand tools and equipment such as shears, bend brakes, welders, rollers, and crimper.

Estimates time and materials required to complete a work order; requisitions materials.

Receives assignments in the form of verbal or written work orders which may be accompanied by plans or sketches.

Receives general supervision from a Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor; work is reviewed for completion and compliance with plans or directions.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Completion of a formal four-year apprenticeship in the sheet metal trade; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Five or more years of on-the-job training in the sheet metal trade; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
