Definition

This is entry-level work in a warehouse, canteen, commissary, storeroom, or gift shop involving the receipt, storage, distribution, acquisition, and/or selling of inventory.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience as a Stores Clerk with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Two or more years of experience maintaining inventory items and related records; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Performs routine storekeeping duties in a warehouse, canteen, commissary, or storeroom.

Operates a tool storeroom or gift shop.

Receives and unpacks incoming inventory items; inspects for quality and quantity; refers major decisions regarding non-conformance with specifications to a designated supervisor.

Labels and places inventory items in appropriate storage areas; rotates as necessary.

Fills requisitions and prepares items to be delivered or shipped.

Orders inventory using established specifications to replenish stock based on pre-determined inventory levels and reorder points.

Recommends new or modified storage methods.

Operates a cash register; counts money; prices items; and places merchandise on shelves.

Maintains computerized and/or manual records of inventory items received, stored, issued, ordered, returned, disposed, and/or sold.

Takes physical inventories to determine quantities on hand and/or reconcile records.

Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and/or other material handling equipment.

Maintains clean and orderly storage/stores areas(s).

Leads and/or supervises staff, offenders, and/or residents engaged in loading, unloading, storing, and distributing inventory items.

Exercises independence in the performance of duties under general supervision.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures used in the receipt, storage, delivery, or shipment of various inventory items including perishable goods.

Intermediate knowledge of purchasing and requisitioning procedures.

Intermediate knowledge of transportation providers and shipment methods.

Intermediate knowledge of computerized recordkeeping systems.

Ability to evaluate quality and quantity of inventory items for conformance with purchase orders and specifications.

Ability to provide instruction and guidance to others in material handling and recordkeeping duties.

Ability to prepare and maintain sales, requisition, and inventory records.

Ability to lift and move heavy objects.

Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and/or other material handling equipment.
