Definition

This is mid-level public contact work in the operation of a tourist Welcome Center.

Job Duties

Serves as a lead worker or supervises staff; assists in training staff.

Assists in developing and maintaining travel information displays and dioramas.

Greets the public; answers inquiries and provides information such as Missouri tourist publications, maps, and brochures; makes presentations to facility visitors.

Plans itineraries for tourists; provides directions to points of interest.

Prepares and maintains records and reports pertaining to site visitation.

Assumes responsibility for the overall operations of a Welcome Center in the absence of supervisor.

Represents the State of Missouri at trade shows, conferences, and related events.

Exercises considerable independence in the completion of work; receives general administrative direction.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility.  Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted.  These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

One or more years of experience as a Tourist Guide with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

Two or more years of public contact experience in: business, advertising and promotions, public relations, communications, education, law enforcement, parks, recreation, tourism activities, or a closely related area; and a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.)

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)

OR

Two or more years of public contact experience such as employment or credit interviewing, customer services representative, receptionist, or a closely related area; and a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.)

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
