This is senior-level supervisory and administrative law enforcement and/or physical security work with the power of arrest within the Missouri Capitol Police.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
One or more years of experience as a Capitol Police Sergeant with the Missouri Capitol Police.
OR
Five or more years of experience as a certified peace officer in a federal, state, county, or city law enforcement agency with the power of arrest; and, commissioned as a peace officer by the Missouri Department of Public Safety (must be at least 21 years of age to be commissioned).
- Ability to pass a background investigation and drug screening administered by the Missouri Capitol Police prior to appointment.
- Ability to pass a medical and visual examination with eyesight corrected to 20/40, plus a psychological evaluation as prescribed by the Missouri Department of Public Safety after a conditional offer of appointment has been made.
- Possession of a valid Missouri vehicle operator's license.
- Ability to maintain Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Manages a law enforcement communication and alarm monitoring system.
Manages a crime prevention program for the Capitol Complex and other state-owned property.
Manages the residential security detail and operations at the Governor's Mansion.
Supervises and evaluates the work performance of subordinate personnel.
Establishes and maintains a continuous in-service staff training program for all Missouri Capitol Police personnel.
Assists in the selection process for Capitol Police Officer candidates; conducts all pre-employment background investigations.
Assists with the planning and coordination of emergency preparedness for the Capitol Complex.
Provides and maintains written procedural operations for Missouri Capitol Police personnel.
Oversees computer operations for Capitol Police Local Area Network and Internet presence.
Assists management with administrative duties including training and logistics.
Exercises considerable independence; receives general administrative direction.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Comprehensive knowledge of Missouri Capitol Police policies and directives.
Comprehensive knowledge of law enforcement techniques and methods of dealing with individuals and groups with diverse cultural heritage.
Comprehensive knowledge of Missouri criminal law statutes and arrest procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of the rules, regulations, and policies established for the purpose of ensuring adequate security for buildings and grounds.
Comprehensive knowledge of security measures including planning, implementation, and control.
Comprehensive knowledge of the techniques of supervision and administration of police personnel.
Comprehensive knowledge of computerized security systems.
Ability to communicate effectively and interact with the general public.
Ability to quickly assess information and events and make remedial decisions in emergency situations.
Ability to proficiently operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to administer first aid.
Ability to train and supervise staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, gov ernment officials, and the general public.
Ability to plan, establish, and maintain a complex security program.
