This is senior-level direct care work managing and supervising a multi-ward/cottage sub-unit on a shift, or a single group home/cottage on a 24-hour basis, in a state facility for persons with developmental disabilities.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
One or more years of experience as a Developmental Assistant II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
OR
Three or more years of experience as a Developmental Assistant I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
OR
Four or more years of experience as a Psychiatric Technician II or Security Aide II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
OR
Four or more years of direct care experience on a ward or unit with residents who are primarily diagnosed with developmental disabilities; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Manages and supervises Developmental Assistants in a multi-ward/cottage sub-unit on a shift, a single group home/cottage on a 24-hour basis, or a comparable treatment area; makes frequent rounds to inspect and evaluate the work of subordinates, and review and instruct staff in the total care and treatment of clients.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment by ensuring that cleanliness standards are met, unsafe conditions are corrected, and maintenance issues are reported.
Observes, reports, and records changes in the physical condition, behavioral response, and emotional status of clients; prepares and/or supervises the preparation of related records and reports.
Implements, conducts, and supervises planned sessions of individual or group treatment activities in physical therapy, activity therapy, education, vocational rehabilitation, and related areas within the sub-unit.
Prepares work assignments and reviews client program plans; reports observations to treatment team and/or Unit Program Supervisor to assist in program planning.
Supervises the application of basic health care for clients; administers oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, topical, and insulin injection medications, under professional supervision, and after certification by facility officials.
Investigates reports of rule infractions, complaints of clients and staff, and related incidents; prepares reports to supervisors on such cases; and maintains discipline in the assigned area by handling routine complaints and problems.
Provides instruction and orientation for new Developmental Assistants regarding duties and facility regulations; supervises and participates in the ongoing training and practical instruction of staff.
Prepares schedules and time and attendance records; circulates and implements directives.
Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; approves requisitions and secures replacements as required.
Exercises independent judgment and initiative within the limit of established policies and procedures; receives general administrative direction.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Comprehensive knowledge of basic treatment techniques used in nursing, physical therapy, activity therapy, education, vocational rehabilitation, and related areas.
Comprehensive knowledge of elementary behavior modification techniques.
Intermediate knowledge of the principles of personnel management and supervision.
Intermediate knowledge of hospital practices, rules, and regulations.
Ability to effectively manage a multi-ward/cottage sub-unit on a shift, or a single group home/cottage on a 24-hour basis.
Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
Ability to administer oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, topical, and insulin injection medications after certification by facility officials.
Ability to implement and supervise individual and/or group treatment programs for the development of client skills related to self-help, play, education, muscular development, and socialization.
Ability to accurately record observations, prepare reports, and supervise others in these activities.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Ability to accept and adapt to changes in assignments, methods, and policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, supervisors, and the general public.
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of assigned duties.
