This is entry-level technical work with offenders under the supervision and control of the Missouri Department of Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole.
Supervises offenders in housing units, living quarters, general housekeeping, work, educational, recreational, religious, and treatment activities in Community Supervision Centers and Community Release Centers.
Checks and counts offenders; inspects housing units for safety and security violations; checks for health and safety hazards; prepares reports on offender violations, offender behaviors, mechanical deficiencies, and security breaches of facility rules.
Interviews offenders to obtain information relating to their residential and family relationships, employment, and educational records; contacts family members, employers, and friends to verify offender's background; collects and verifies offender's legal case history and police reports; prepares reports and maintains records of investigative findings.
Retrieves information from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES), Missouri Department of Revenue, and Missouri Department of Corrections' computer databases; responds to confirmed active warrants; enters/cancels warrants on escaped and/or absconded offenders.
Photographs and issues identification cards to offenders.
Ensures offenders have parole orders.
Provides information to staff and law enforcement officials relating to location and apprehension of escaped and/or absconded offenders.
Investigates, monitors, and enters schedule changes for offenders on electronic monitoring.
Assists in the maintenance of databases, chronological shift records, inventory, and vehicle logs; troubleshoots equipment problems.
Answers and logs emergency calls from offenders, family members, and the general public; contacts appropriate staff to resolve issues.
Assists Probation and Parole Officers with court hearings and home visits.
Assists offenders with job search activities.
Escorts and/or transports offenders to their designated locations.
Supervises movement and location of offenders inside and outside of the facility; intervenes, in emergency situations to gain control of offenders and/or perform CPR.
Monitors, controls, and documents offender's consumption of prescription and over-the-counter medications.
Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers major problems to the supervisor; promotes rehabilitation by modifying offender attitudes, discouraging undesirable behaviors, and encouraging constructive activities.
Administers substance abuse assessment devices to offenders; collects Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid (DNA) samples.
Provides after-hours assistance to departmental staff and the general public.
Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors, offenders, property, living quarters, buildings, and grounds for contraband.
Orders, maintains, and issues supplies.
Exercises some independence in the performance of duties; receives general administrative direction; work is reviewed by a designated supervisor for conformance with established policies and procedures.
Performs other related work as assigned.
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Two or more years of work experience; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency, and a valid vehicle operator's license.
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment.
By assignment, a position may require:
Successful completion of an essential functions evaluation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections will be required prior to employment.
Successful completion of safety training which may include firearms and defensive tactics, CPR, First Aid, and the ability to re-qualify annually.
Successful completion of training administered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) prior to regular appointment.

Ability to monitor, control, and document offender's consumption of prescription medications.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, offenders, court officials, and the general public.
