This is semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment, involving several of the building and mechanical trades.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

One or more years of semi-skilled experience in general maintenance work (not landscaping/groundskeeping work or custodial/cleaning work); and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
(30 earned credit hours, or 480 clock hours of training in a formal program of instruction in one or more of the building, mechanical, or electrical trades may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
OR
Two or more years of semi-skilled experience in general maintenance work (not landscaping/groundskeeping work or custodial/cleaning work).
(Training in a formal program of instruction in one or more of the building, mechanical, or electrical trades may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience, at a rate of 30 earned credit hours, or 480 clock hours, for one year.)

Performs routine preventive maintenance and monitoring activities on equipment such as air handlers, refrigeration and air conditioning units, high and low pressure steam systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; records meter and gauge readings; cleans coils and oils motors; and replaces belts, filters, switches, gauges, and motors.
Assists skilled carpenters, plumbers, electricians, electronics technicians, or other higher-level maintenance staff in performing maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
Performs routine maintenance painting building surfaces and equipment and patch plastering walls.
Performs routine maintenance carpentry work on such items as furniture, doors, windows, shelves, and floors; assembles modular furniture.
Performs routine maintenance plumbing work such as unstopping toilets and drains; replacing faucets, valves, and washers; and repairing water line leaks.
Performs routine maintenance electrical work such as replacing light bulbs, outlets, and switches, and limited repairs of electrical motors, generators, and communication equipment.
Performs minor repairs and adjustments to a variety of machines and equipment such as sewing machines, window air conditioners, general office equipment, metal furniture and structures, electronic medical equipment, wheelchairs, automotive equipment, and kitchen appliances.
Receives supervision from a Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor; however, duties are generally of limited difficulty and performed according to established procedures and specific instructions that are provided on new or complex work.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Introductory knowledge of the standard tools and practices of the various trades such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and plastering.
Introductory knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical and building trades.
Ability to perform semi-skilled work in a variety of mechanical and building trades.
Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, plans, penciled layouts, and drawings.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or motorized equipment as necessary in the performance of assignments.
Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions as necessary in the performance of assignments.
