This is professional licensed behavior analyst work designing and implementing behavior support plans for persons with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities to enhance adaptive behaviors and diminish challenging behaviors resulting in significant harm to self, others, or property in a residential, hospital, or community based setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

Possession of a current license to practice as a Behavior Analyst in the State of Missouri.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Designs and implements behavior support plans to enhance adaptive behaviors and diminish challenging behaviors resulting in restrictive interventions or placements for individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.

Participates in person centered plan and/or treatment team meetings to develop, review, and update individual plans.

Observes client behavior and completes initial behavioral assessments; determines client progress towards goals and modifies behavior support plans accordingly.

Develops and implements training programs for staff, other care providers, and family members in the implementation of behavior support plans and intervention tactics and techniques.

Determines data needs; develops behavior checklists and other reporting mechanisms for staff use in recording and reporting client behavior.

Confers with interdisciplinary team to assess client behavior, monitor client progress, and adjust behavior plans as needed.

Develops behavior support plans to assist clients in transitioning from one care setting to another; consults with community service provider staff in implementing behavior plans to achieve a successful living arrangement and/or to prevent regression and re-admittance to a more structured program.

Confers with psychiatric and other health and mental health professionals to determine effectiveness of treatment strategies including psychotropic or other behavior control medications.

Prepares reports on individual clients and program activity as required by program, state, and federal requirements.

Participates in quality assurance monitoring, implementation, and reporting, including periodic reviews of manual restraint data and procedures to meet least restrictive treatment guidelines; ensures that behavior support procedures, including physical interventions in maladaptive or disruptive behaviors, meet required regulatory and ethical needs.

Conducts in-service training and workshops which enhance staff and caregiver understanding and ability to provide active habilitation and effective behavioral programming.

Serves as a member of various facility committees.

Exercises a high degree of independent skill and competence within established policies; receives supervision from a designated authority who reviews work through case review, participation in treatment planning, and/or observation of results.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of applied behavior analysis and modification principles, theories, and techniques.

Comprehensive knowledge of professional and ethical guidelines, federal and state laws and regulations, and departmental rules governing the practice of behavior analysis and modification, including those outlined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. and the Behavior Analyst Advisory Board.

Comprehensive knowledge of mental illness and/or developmental disabilities and their effect on individual cognitive and behavioral functioning.

Comprehensive knowledge of assessment instruments and measurement techniques, including statistical methods and electronic databases used in analyzing and reporting on behavior issues.

Comprehensive knowledge of the scientific methods and procedures of understanding, predicting, and influencing human behavior, such as statistics, experimental design, and psychometrics.

Comprehensive knowledge of individual, family and group dynamics, and behaviors influenced by mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.

Ability to develop, implement, and coordinate behavior support plans for individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.

Ability to assess and interpret behaviors and data, and make effective reports and studies.

Ability to train facility staff, caregivers, and family members in behavior analysis techniques.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, their families, and the general public.
