This is supervisory work directing a group of laborers or offenders performing manual work.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Three or more years of manual work experience, including one or more years involving grounds work, manual work assisting in the vocational trades, or other activities related to facility maintenance and upkeep; and completion of the eighth grade.
(Training from a recognized vocational training school in the building, mechanical, or electrical trades may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 40 clock hours for one month of experience.)

Supervises crew(s) of laborers or offenders in grounds work such as mowing grass, trimming and/or removing trees and shrubs, fertilizing and seeding lawns, shoveling snow, and patching asphalt roads.
Supervises work crew(s) in other manual tasks such as hauling trash, loading and unloading trucks and moving office furniture.
Assigns individuals or crews to assist skilled trades workers by performing manual tasks such as digging for broken water lines or lifting heavy objects.
Issues tools and equipment, and maintains records of their usage, maintenance, and repair.
Trains new workers regarding assignments to be performed and tools and equipment to be used.
Prioritizes work assignments and explains work to be performed on special projects.
Requisitions supplies and monitors inventory.
Prepares time and attendance reports on assigned workers; evaluates performance of employees; completes work training reports on offenders.
Performs standard equipment checks such as oil and antifreeze levels.
Performs routine maintenance and repair on equipment; prepares work orders for more extensive maintenance or repair.
Receives general administrative direction; work is reviewed through inspections.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Intermediate knowledge of tools and equipment used such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, chain saws, backhoes, trucks, forklifts, and assorted hand tools.
Intermediate knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions to take in performing assigned work when using hand/power tools and equipment.
Ability to explain work to be performed, proper use of tools, and the correct operation of equipment.
Ability to plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of employees.
Ability to prepare records, work orders, and order supplies.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
