This is senior-level production engineering work in the Vocational Enterprises Program of the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility.  Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted.  These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering; and,

Two or more years of experience as an Industrial Engineer.

(24 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering may substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.)

OR

Six or more years of industrial or manufacturing experience in tool and die, machine, or product design; plant layout; development of production schedules; or quality control; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which included coursework in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of four years of the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Directs production engineering services related to the operation of manufacturing enterprises such as shoes, clothing, and metal, wood, and soap products.

Directs and trains staff and offenders engaged in production engineering activities.

Develops and reviews mechanical and product designs for proposed or existing products; prepares specifications for materials and equipment.

Prepares or reviews cost estimates for products.

Supervises and participates in the design, construction and maintenance of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures required for existing or future products.

Designs and prepares layouts and detailed drawings for products manufactured; prepares plant layouts and oversees method analyses and time and motion studies; recommends revisions in existing products and factory layouts.

Confers with and assists factory managers in establishing and maintaining operating efficiency, product quality, and production schedules.

Provides technical assistance in the development of new product and service activities.

Prepares and maintains resource materials and publications.

Receives general administrative direction; work is reviewed through reports and quality of products and services.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Ability to design machinery and products suitable for vocational industry manufacture.

Ability to communicate effectively and prepare clear and concise records and reports.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public.
