This is administrative work in coordinating the fulfillment of Military Funeral Honors requests within an assigned geographical area of the state.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and,

 

Four or more years of experience in one or more of the areas described below.

 

(A combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience described may substitute for the stated qualifications.)

Special Qualifying Experience
  1. Experience in a Military Funeral Honors Program position or in a U.S. Military leadership position as a Senior Non-commissioned Officer or above.

  2. Professional or technical employment, of which the major duties involved coordination of scheduling with outside entity resources within an established program area/region.

  3. Public relations work requiring close public contact and interaction with the media and community organizations.

Special Requirements

1. Ability to pass initial and periodic background investigations, indicating no felony convictions or misdemeanor domestic violence convictions {per Title 18 U.S. Code Section 922}.

2. Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Receives requests for Military Funeral Honors support, verifies eligibility for support, and tasks appropriate ceremony providers.

Coordinates with funeral directors, veterans’ organizations, National Guard units and the program in order to schedule requested Military Funeral Honors ceremonies.

Coordinates training requirements for Missouri National Guard units and veterans’ organizations on the proper performance of Military Funeral Honors ceremonies.

Evaluates the performance of veterans’ organization honors teams and certifies them as authorized honors ceremony providers; periodically reevaluates certified organizations; maintains accurate records of all area certified organizations.

Plans and organizes work activities to achieve established program goals and objectives.

Prepares and makes presentations to area groups and organizations regarding the Military Funeral Honors Program as necessary.

Reviews program policies, objectives, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in order to determine the effects of operations and the need for revisions/additions.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of applicable military regulations, policies and directives for Military Funeral Honors ceremonies.

 Intermediate knowledge of military drill and ceremony techniques.

 Intermediate knowledge of the methods and techniques used in preparing and presenting training programs.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the media, veterans’ organizations, the National Guard, funeral directors, and the public.

Ability to plan and organize work activities to achieve established program objectives.

Ability to prepare and make informational presentations regarding the Military Funeral Honors Program.

Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare complex reports.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Ability to travel extensively within the assigned geographical area.

Ability to work irregular hours.
